13 Days & Counting…

June 29, 2009

I am 13 days out from my first figure contest and I’m trying to keep my workouts as intense as possible and the diet impeccable. The biggest challenge is keeping the protein shakes to only pre, during and post workout. They’re so convenient, it’s tempting to have them even more often. I’ll need to cut them completely next week and be very disciplined about eating only whole foods (which I will). So far so good.

Today, I focused on legs and shoulders. This year, I’ve started doing sets with 20 reps — that’s 20 hard reps, with a weight that is challenging on the last 5 – 8 reps.

I like it!

This was today’s workout. All sets were interspersed with jump rope intervals –

Good Mornings 45# x 15 x 3

Barbell Squat 95# x 20
115# x 20 x 2

Standing Arnold Press 20# x 20/16/15

Standing Rear Delt Flyes
Sideline Lateral Raises
Front Raises all with 10# DB’s for 15 – 20 reps x 3

Walking Lunges with 30# bar held overhead (great shoulder/core workout… really challenges your balance! My clients HATE these! Hee!) superset with dynamic body-weight only lunges right after. 25 walking lunges + 20 dynamic lunges x 2

Bodybugg says 900 calories were burned!

Tomorrow is HIIT only and posing practice. I should have my bedazzled suit back in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday. Yay.

I’m going to use this blog as a workout log and possibly have random musings on health, fitness and the personal training industry. I love being a trainer. I never, ever dread going to work and I really do enjoy every single day. Now that I’ve been doing it for awhile, I can also say it’s extremely rewarding to watch people flourish and change their lives in so many ways. Being a part of that is really great.

Exercise seems to open the doors to self-confidence and self-belief.

It shows people what can be possible in other areas of life once you decide to take action and make positive changes.
